Beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor
“Renowned story-teller”

Robert J. Pugliese, 86, of Nutley, NJ, passed away on April 8th after a long illness. Bob was a life-long resident of Nutley, graduating from Nutley High School in 1951. After graduating, he proudly served as a company clerk in the US Army for 2 ½ years. Returning to Nutley he would eventually spend over 40 years working as a salesman at Sally’s Auto Parts (later Carquest), where he was consistently one of the top sales representatives for the company. A natural athlete, at 50 he competed in an over 40 basketball league and at 60 he competed in an over 50 softball league. An avid Yankee fan, he passed on his love of baseball to hundreds of kids as a coach and later president of the Belleville Little League. Bob also loved to travel, returning to his parents’ hometown in Italy, Castelnuovo di Conza, several times over the last 50 years. He loved to tell stories to his family and friends about the “Old Country” as well as his days in the army. He spent his retirement learning to cook, especially his famous meatballs, eggplant, and stuffed mushrooms. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. A devoted family man he is survived by his beloved wife Patricia (nee Maucione); son Robert, Jr. and his wife Leslie; daughter Carla Dean and her husband Martin. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Charles Dean, Amanda Dean, Olivia Dean, Mariella Pugliese, and Vittoria Pugliese. One of 10 children of Emidio and Rachel Pugliese he is pre-deceased by his brothers Vincent, Emil, and Anthony and his sisters Mary Mee, Priscilla Ciafarone, Sue Tisseker, and Ann Pinckney. He is survived by his sister Dolores Merrell and brother Larry. He is also survived by over 100 nieces and nephews. Private funeral arraignments have been made by S.W. Brown and Son. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Gary Sinise Foundation at garysinisefoundation.org in honor of his service in the US Army, or, to Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad, www.nutleyrescue.org/donations, would be appreciated.
