Obituary for Robert C. Villani

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Robert C. Villani on January 28, 2022 at the age of 72. His loving wife, Nancy, was by his side.
Bob was born in Newark, NJ and attended Barringer High School class of 1967. He was on the track team and won gold in the javelin throw at the Newark City Meet which encompassed all the high schools in Newark. An honor and then some.
Bob was a proud Vietnam War veteran with an honorable discharge. He served in the Army from 4/1969 to 3/1971. During his time in Vietnam he served as a Military Police Officer.
On Bob’s life journey, he spent his childhood in Newark and summers in Oceanport, NJ at his beloved grandparents’ home. In 1991 he made Nutley his home with his beloved Nancy.
Bob worked at Hoffmann-La Roche for over 41 years, retiring in 2010. He started in the mail room and through hard work and promotions became the Section Leader in Materials Mgmt. of Hazardous chemicals. From there he was promoted to Senior Business Process Specialist in Supply Chain until retirement. It was here at Roche that Bob would meet Nancy who in time became his wife of 29 years.
During his time at Roche Bob played softball and basketball with the Roche interdepartment league and played football in a league competing against other companies. Lifelong friends were made at Roche.
Anyone who knew Bobby was touched by his kindness, strength, sense of humor and his mild temperament. Although faced with many challenging issues he always kept a positive attitude and was a source of positivity for others.
He was a true friend. A testament to that was his friendship with his high school friends for over 50 years. He enjoyed talking on the phone with them (most days he talked to at least one of them, making his rounds throughout the group). He looked forward to his weekly lunches with them and the end of the month dinners.
Bobby loved spending time with his family and often reflected on his childhood memories with his cousins and brother Steve later in life visiting the home (otherwise known as “The Big House”) of Godfather Charlie and Godmother Ann and their 3 daughters, Charlene, Lynne, and Dee, also known as “Charlies Angels”. And to this day they remain “angels”.
Bob was a proud Uncle to his nephews Christopher, Justin and niece Lisa. He loved them dearly. Although they are all spread across the country Bob enjoyed talking with them and got such a kick out of seeing pictures of their children.
In his free time, Bob traveled with his family throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. He cherished spending time with his family and those lasting memories were always a source of conversation. A tradition started early on, buying a Christmas tree ornament in every place visited and hence our Christmas tree was known as the travel tree.
He was lifelong fan of the Yankees and the Raiders and loved listening to classic rock and often times could be heard singing off key.
To say that his family and friends will miss him greatly is an understatement, because if you knew Bobby, you loved Bobby!
