Obituary for Ruth Stanley (Hodson)

Ruth Stanley, 98 of Bloomfield passed away on Sunday October 16, 2022. Born in Bloomfield, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Clerkin) Hodson. Mrs. Stanley lived in Nutley before going to Bloomfield 30 years ago and was a secretary at Hoffmann-LaRoche in Nutley before retiring. Active in both church and community, Ruth was a member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley and a member of the September Club at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield. She was also a member of the Nutley Welcome Wagon Committee, a volunteer at Mountainside Hospital and was a docent at the Crane House in Montclair. Ruth also wrote her own column in the Nutley Sun called the ”Day Tripper”.
A beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was predeceased by her husband, of 62 years, William Stanley and her daughter Linda Williamson. She is survived by her daughter Jody Walsh and husband, Patrick and her 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth was the dear sister of the late Elizabeth Lyons, Alice Hartz, Kathleen Schaefer, Lavena Griswold and Dorothy Shu.

Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday October 19 at 9:30 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Nutley at 10:30 am followed by burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday October 18 from 3-7 pm
