Obituary for Stephanie Caroline Rizzo

Stephanie C. Rizzo, 95, of Brooklyn passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday November 15, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Geraldine (Farina) Rizzo. Miss Rizzo was born and raised in Park Slope but spent the last 63 years in Sheepshead Bay. She was a graduate of Baruch College, a constituent college of City College of New York. She was an assistant manager for New York Telephone for 37 years before retiring. She is survived by many cousins and dear friends.

After Stephanie retired, she maintained her connection with the telephone industry by being an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, but her true passion was her faith and her church. She made a point of having something to look forward to everyday.

Stephanie was very proud to be a part of St. Mark's R.C. Church since 1958. Over the years she volunteered in numerous and various roles; she was a loyal member of the Saint Matthews Guild and spent many Mondays counting the collection money. She also assisted many adults with the process of becoming Roman Catholic as an active member of the RCIA program. She was a volunteer secretary at St. Mark's rectory , served as a Eucharistic minister. and was the coordinator of Lectors until 2020. Never missing an opportunity to be of service, she would assist as an Alter Server while lecturing if needed.

"Fanny" as she was affectionately known to her family is Jersey, was in charge of the prayer petitions made by parishioners to Padre Pio, was involved in fundraising for the church, was a member of the Rosary Society and was a Dame of the Holy Sepulcher. She donated the image of the Divine Mercy and also took part in the Devotion to the Sacred Heart for many years.

Visiting will be Friday from 9:30am-10:30am at St. Mark’s R.C. Church at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Avenue Z in Brooklyn, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30am.

There will be a visitation on Saturday from 9:30am -10:30am at S. W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street Nutley, NJ. www.swbrownandson.com There will be a blessing at 10:30am Saturday followed by entombment at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. NJ
