Obituary for Terence E. Chalk

Terence E. Chalk of Nutley, N.J. passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017. He is father to Lawrence, Terence Jr., Bradley, Victoria and Stephanie, all of or formerly from Nutley N.J., and was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Chalk who died in 1983.
Mr. Chalk retired as international editor for United Press International in 1980, where he had worked for 34 years. He was born in Birkenhead, England, on April 4, 1915, the son of the late Ernest & Grace (Guilfoyle) Chalk, and moved with his family to Bermuda in 1925. He became editor of the Mid-Ocean News and reported for the Associated Press during World War II. Following the war, he moved with his family to Nutley, N.J., where he lived in the same house for 71 years. He was active in the Nutley Little Theatre, where he appeared in 16 productions. He bowled with the Nutley Old Guard until he was 99 years old. He is predeceased by his sisters Eileen and Doreen. He is survived by one sister, Patricia Chambers, five children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, June 10, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Crest Haven Memorial Park, Clifton, NJ.
Friends and family will be received at S.W. Brown & Son, 267 Centre Street, Nutley, N.J. 07110 on Friday, June 9 from 4 to 8 p.m.
His family asks that donations be made to the Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad in lieu of flowers.
