Obituary for Theodore J. Verstraete

Theodore J. Verstraete Jr., a veteran of World War II and longtime resident of Brick, NJ passed away on January 27, 2022. Ted was born October 25, 1926 to Theodore J. and Jessica (Poole) Verstraete and attended Bloomfield High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Ted saw action during WWII in the South Pacific aboard a US Navy minesweeper, and had many intriguing stories of his time there.

After the war, Ted returned home and married Marion Plate in November, 1947. Together, they raised five children in Saddle Brook before moving to Whippany in the early 1960's. Ted retired after 43 years of service at PSEG in East Orange. He and Marion enjoyed living in Venice, FL and Brick, NJ for many years of their retirement.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, his parents, and his brother, Vernon Verstraete. He is survived by his sister Carol Kappeler of Lakewood, daughters Linda Bock (Bill) of Nutley, Virginia Lampman of Brick, Janet Nielsen (Dennis) of Mine Hill, Elaine Thornberry of Brookside, and son Theodore (Ted) Verstraete III (Linda) of Washington Twp. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 7great-grandchildren to mourn his loss.

Funeral arrangements will be private, and are being handled by S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Nutley, NJ.
