Obituary for Theresa Adelmann (Bachmann)
On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Theresa Adelmann, loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 96 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerville, NJ after complications due to a stroke.
Theresa was born on February 15, 1923 in Kraiburg, Germany to Ludwig and Barbara (Haas) Bachmann. After World War II she emigrated to America with her young son, Herb, and settled in Belleville, NJ. On July 27, 1959 she married Charles M. Adelmann. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Essex County Isolation Hospital for many years.
Theresa was a devout Catholic and her strong faith in God prevailed throughout her life. She was happiest when she was serving others and this continued after her move to Avalon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, NJ. Long walks, classical music, knitting and playing cards brought her much enjoyment.
Theresa was preceded in death by her brother, Ludwig Bachmann, sister, Betty Gossl, husband, Charles M. Adelmann, and son, Herb Bachmann. She is survived by her stepson, Charles F. Adelmann and his wife, Patricia; daughter-in-law, Ruth Bachmann; granddaughter, Jodi Mannix and her husband, Patrick; and two nephews in Germany, Helmut Bachmann and Manfred Gossl, and their families.
Her cremated remains were interred at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 17 Monsignor Owens Pl., Nutley, NJ.
