Theresa Matera, 92, formerly of Belleville, passed away on Friday April 10, 2020. Born in Newark, she was the daughter of the late William and Angela Rose (Bovino) Ricigliano. Mrs. Matera came to Belleville in 1972 and was a revenue clerk with Coordinated Transport in Newark for seven years before retiring. She was a member of the Belleville Seniors Tuesday and Friday Clubs, the Cherry Blossom Club, a formerer Rosarian and was also an avid reader and member of the Friends of the Belleville Library. A devoted wife and mother, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward J. Matera and her beloved son Edward S. Matera. She is survived by her son John Matera and his wife, Carol, her daughter-in-law Loretta Matera, her grandchildren, Edward Matera and wife, Amy, Daniel Matera and wife, Tamara, Megan Roszko and husband, John, John Matera and Christa Matera and her great granddaughter, Genevieve Matera with a second great grandchild on the way. Theresa was also the dear sister of Sarah Fiumefreddo and the late, Victor Ricigliano, Mary Capaccio, Joseph Ricigliano, Daniel Ricigliano, Rose Cignarella and Jeanette Bevilacqua. Also survived by brother-in-law John Bevilacqua and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services for Theresa and burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover will be private. A Memorial Mass and celebration of Theresa’s life will be planned at a future date.
