Obituary for Theresa Palermo (Matarazzo)
Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother
Theresa Palermo, 90, of Belleville, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Born in Newark, NJ, Theresa was the daughter of the late Anthony and Elena (DeCicco) Matarazzo. She retired as a teacher’s aide for St. Patrick’s School. Theresa was a former active parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Newark. Spending time with her family for Sunday dinners was something she always looked forward to and she knows her family will carry on the tradition. She loved spending time with her sister Mary, her best friend and partner in crime. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and especially enjoyed her time spent with her Fairview Place neighbors.
The beloved wife of the late Michael Palermo, Theresa is survived by her children Joann Scalera and her husband Fred, Michael Palermo Jr. and his wife Marlene, and Anthony Palermo and his wife Tina, sisters Emma Basile and Millie Salvatoriello, five grandchildren Michael III, Michele, Anthony, Kristen, and Eric, and 3 great-grandchildren Sophia, Michael IV, and Theo. She was predeceased by her brother Cosimo Matarazzo and sister Mary Ferrara.
The funeral will be Tuesday, January 24th at 8:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Bloomfield.
The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday, January 23rd from 4 – 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Theresa’s memory would be appreciated.
