Obituary for Thomas P. Mahon

Thomas P. Mahon, 86, passed away on Sunday April 19, 2020. Born and raised in Kearny, he was the son of the late John Edward and Catherine (Mooney) Mahon. Mr. Mahon moved to Nutley more than 50 years ago, and was head of purchasing with Maxwell House in Hoboken before retiring. Tom graduated from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He was a U.S. Army veteran and an active parish member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield. For years he could be found on weekends at his son Kenny’s restaurant, American Bistro, enjoying a steak and a Budweiser with his wife Mary, watching the game and catching up with the staff and patrons. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he made time for family no matter the circumstance. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Rizzolo) Mahon, his children, Kenneth Mahon, Tricia Mahon-Bartell, Marybeth Mahon, daughter-in-law, Donna Mahon and grandchildren, Jillian, Kaitlin and Kelly Mahon and Faith and Joseph Bartell, sister-in-laws, Barbara Mahon, Geri Mahon, Joanne DeHays and brother-in-law, Joe Duggan and many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, wonderful neighbors and close friends. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Mahon, Jr. and his 8 brothers and sisters.
