Obituary for Thomas Caruso

LOVING SON, BROTHER, AND UNCLE

Thomas “Tommy” Caruso, age 55, of Nutley, NJ passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2020. Tommy touched the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and was loved by all. He is survived by his brothers Joseph (Katie Sikorski) Caruso and Michael (Mary Lou) Caruso, his sisters Mary Ann Paventa, Marie-Michele (Tom) Darcy, Carolyn (Paul) Pecoraro, eight nieces and nephews and a large and loving extended family including his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tommy was born on August 25,1965 to Oreste (Rusty) and Santina (Sandy) Caruso, both of whom predeceased him. He was the youngest of their 6 children. Tommy attended Lincoln School until he was 21 years of age. He then attended West Essex Rehabilitation Center Day Program in Montclair for many years until moving to Special Young Adults (an ARC Day Program) in Nutley, NJ.

Tommy was a communicant at Holy Family Church and he was a member of the Boy Scouts “Special Needs” Troop in Nutley. Tommy had an exuberance for life and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time at Camp Fatima of NJ, an all-volunteer organization that serves people with special needs. Tommy also loved his large, extended family, and he especially loved festive family gatherings where he could show off his dancing skills! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Due to Covid restrictions, the funeral services will be private. A liturgical celebration of Tommy’s life will occur at a future date. Tommy will be interred with his parents at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair, NJ.
