Obituary for Thomas J. Nascarella

Thomas Joseph Mario Nascarella, 66, died Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson following a long illness.
He leaves the love of his life, Dr. Portia Johnson; his sister, Eliza Nascarella, and two nieces, Alexandra Le and Natalia Le; and many cousins and close friends.
Born in New York City and raised in Nutley, New Jersey, the son of Giuseppe "Joe" and Elinore Nascarella, Tom was a resident of Clifton, New Jersey.
In his early years, Tom attended the Nutley Public Schools and was interested in ham radio where he made many friends throughout the world. He attended Kent State University and then graduated from Rutgers University with Honors and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
After his college graduation, Tom went to work for Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley. This employment was to be just one of many things he had in common with his lifelong love and best friend, Dr. Portia Johnson. It was with Portia that Tom spent many memorable years, and summers in Maine.
Tom was an avid bicycle rider, and enjoyed traveling, having taken several cross country rides from the east coast to California on his bike, as well as touring Cuba long before it was fashionable.
