Obituary for Valentine M. Iacovantuono

Valentine M. Iacovantuno, 93, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2020 at Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Fairfield. A long-time resident of Nutley, New Jersey, Val was the youngest of nine children of Mary and Valentino Iacovantuono of Newark, NJ.

A WWII veteran who served in the Philippines Val was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service and WW II Victory Medals. He overcame a war -related illness to graduate from Georgetown University and was a Fulbright Scholar studying at The University of Florence. He later earned academic degrees and awards from University of Michigan, Loyola University of California and McGill University in Canada.

Fluent in French and Italian, he taught those languages as well as Latin beginning at Irvington High School. He later taught languages at Dunellen and Westfield High Schools until his retirement.

In addition to his parents ,Val is predeceased by his brother Dominic Vantuno of. Newark and seven sisters : Marie L. Fasone, Celeste Arace, Gilda Vantuno, Betina and Yolanda Iacovantuono all of Nutley, Anne Vernacchia of Clifton and Edith Wichowski of Sepelvuda California.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews,Godchildren and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at his parish of sixty years, St. Mary’s Nutley at 11 am on February 11, 2020 Burial will be private.
