Obituary for Valerie L. Verdi

High School Teacher
Loving Partner, Sister, Niece, Aunt and Great Aunt

Valerie L. Verdi, 63, of Ocean Grove, passed away at her home on December 13, 2022. Born in Passaic, she resided in Rutherford prior to retiring and moving to Ocean Grove. She was the daughter of August P. and Joan (Ray) Verdi. She was a High School Teacher for 31 years with the Kearny Board of Education. She was a graduate of Montclair State University. She is survived by her partner Michael Pasterczyk, her brother Anthony Verdi and sister Diane (Verdi) Malenchak. She was the aunt of Elizabeth Bucci, Victoria McMullen and W. Christopher Coudray, and the great aunt of Robert, Rebecca, Rachael, Juliana, Sophia, and W. Vincent.

Valerie led fashion trends and adored shoes, cats and vases. She loved her family, the beach, antiquing, gardening, literature, movies and music – especially live bands.

She was the “cool and fun” aunt who brought her nieces and nephew to her college classes in the 1970’s and later into her own classroom, whenever she could. She did not have children of her own, but she played an integral role in the many lives she touched as a teacher, mentor and friend.

Aunt Val was known to place her mark on life events with poems written for each occasion. We will miss your perfectly composed sentiments and your unrestrained laugh.

Visitors will be received on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 9am to 10:30am at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30am.

The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
