Obituary for Vito J. Cardinale

Proud World War II Veteran

Vito J. Cardinale, 96, of Nutley, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Born in Newark, the son of the late Joseph and Raffaele (Guarino) Cardinale, he lived in Newark prior to moving to Nutley 80 years ago. Vito retired from the Nutley Parks Department in 1984.
An Army Veteran of WWII, he served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe where he earned the Eastern Theater Offensive Ribbon with 5 Battle Stars, Presidential Unit Award, American Campaign Medal, Battle of the Bulge Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, French Normandy Medal, New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the French Consulate General Certificate.
He is survived by his son, Ralph Cardinale and his wife; Mary Ann; his daughter, Carol Andree; 7 grandchildren, Joshua, Isaiah, Luke, Rosetta, Rachael, Jeremiah, David and Samantha and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Antoinette Franceschini and brother, Frank Cardinale.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

The cremation services and interment of his urn at Arlington National Cemetery will be private.
