Obituary for Wanda Maxine Fava (Salyers)
Wanda Maxine Salyers Fava, aged 97, resident of Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 surrounded by love. A longtime resident of Clifton, New Jersey, Wanda was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Bonnie Mae Salyers of Spencer, Indiana.
Born in Piatt County, Illinois on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924, Wanda, one of nine siblings, spent her early school days in a one room school house. Wanda had a love of learning and a calling for caring about others, earning her degree as RN from The Methodist Hospital of Indiana School of Nursing, Indianapolis in 1945.
Wanda met her beloved Rocco (Roy) Fava while she was in nurses training and he was stationed near Indianapolis training for combat in WWII. She married him in September 1945. In the following decades, the loving couple built their life together in New Jersey. Rocco, founder and proprietor of Park Barbers in Nutley, New Jersey preceded his wife, Wanda, in death in April, 1999. Wanda is survived by her four children – daughter Barbara A. (Ronald) Matzner; son Roy A. (Marilyn) Fava; daughter Patricia M. Fava and daughter Karen Fava Spinner Dillmon (James). Wanda adored her nine grandchildren and doted wildly on her three great grandsons. Two sisters, Cherryl Salyers Cannon and Rosemary Salyers Ostermeyer also survive her. Wanda also will be missed by many nieces, nephews and family friends around the world.
Relatives and friends will be received on July 31st at S.W. Brown and Son, 267 Center Street, Nutley, New Jersey at 10:00 a.m. (EDT). Services will follow at 11:00 am (EDT), Reverend Jill Fenske of Franklin Reform Church, presiding. Entombment service will follow immediately at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove Street, Upper Montclair, New Jersey. For those who are unable to attend, the services will be live-streamed.
