Loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Friend
William Joseph Getherall, 76, of Clifton, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022 peacefully in his home, surrounded by family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, William was the son of the late Jerome and Helen Getherall, née Riddle. After attending the well-known Regis High School in NYC, William graduated from Fordham University. He spent several years as a probation officer before switching into life insurance sales and service. Having found success in his new found field, he soon moved himself and his children to New Jersey. Here he lived in Nutley for 20 years before moving to Clifton after his children had left the home.
William spent much of his vacation time bringing his family to the Pocono Mountains in PA, as well as visiting the campgrounds of Hither Hills State Park at Montauk Point, Long Island. It was at these locations where he partook in one of his favorite pastimes, fishing. His other outdoor passion evolved a bit later, and that was golf. William was a member of North Jersey Country Club in Wayne for three decades where he also chaired a Golf Outing for the Make-A-Wish Foundation which pulled in nearly $2 million during his tenure. If not out on the course, he could be found in the club’s cardroom playing gin for hours on end. He recently retired as a financial advisor for Certified Financial Services in Paramus.
William is survived by his children Jennifer Scirica and Gregg Getherall, sister Geraldine Sherlock, his brothers Thomas, James, and Edward, grandchildren Sydney and Jake Scirica, nephew Michael Getherall, and niece Jamie Sherlock. In addition to family, William is also survived by many close friends and associates. He is predeceased by his parents Jerome and Helen, as well as his brother Robert Getherall.
