On Saturday, May 28, 2022 William J. Jernick III, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 73. Bill was born in Newark, NJ on October 12, 1948, he was a lifelong resident of the township of Nutley. William was a graduate of St. George’s College, and he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp for 6 years.

Bill had a life that was enriched by the many organizations and associations he belonged to over the years, most notably the Nutley Elks where he held their highest rank of Exalted Ruler, William was the third generation of a Jernick to hold that post. Bill proudly served in the following Organizations, The Rotary Club, The Chamber of Commerce, NJ Chapter of Prevention of Child Abuse, Steering Committee to provide Bullet Proof Vests for Police, Township of Nutley Façade Committee, Executive Board of Tamarack Boy Scout Council, Advisory Board for Mt. St. Joseph Children Center, Board of Directors for Nutley Central Little League, Executive Board of the Nutley Family Service Bureau, Nutley Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Dr. Virginia Mattia Award Committee, Chairman Elks Committee on Child Abuse, Co-Chairman of Nutley Elks Youth Activities Committee, District Chairman Elks Youth Activities Committee, NJ State Elks Association Safety Coordinator, Elks North Central District Ritual Judge, Co-Chairman Elks Statue of Liberty Restoration Committee, 25 Years Baseball Coach in Little League & senior League Koufax League & American League, and the Vice President of Central Little League.

As the owner of the William. J. Jernick, Jr. Inc. Insurance Agency, Bill had the opportunity to interact with many town business leaders and residents. Through this venue, he became involved in many Nutley groups and clubs. Well known for his kind and caring demeanor, Bill often sought out the less fortunate and turned his energies to helping them. He was the creator of the Nutley Rotary Christmas for Farm Children where for many years he donned a Santa suit braving the cold handing out presents to farm children in upstate New York. In addition to the countless organizations he helped, he was also the recipient of many awards, which he hesitantly and very humbly accepted. To him, life was much more about giving than it was about receiving.

Bill received the following Awards, American Red Cross 2007 Comradeship Award – Montclair-Glen Ridge-Nutley Chapter, Mattia Award, Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, Essex County Freeholders Proclamation for Assistance to Child Abuse Victims, PGER William J. Jernick Memorial Award for leadership, Grand Marshall of 1993 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Distinguished Service Award from Elks Committee on Child Abuse, Essex County Executive Proclamation, State of New York Senate Resolution, and the NJ State Senate Commendation.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Arden; sons, William IV (Deanna), Adam (Daniella) and Tim (Jennifer) and five grandchildren, William V., Jack, Deanna, Adam Jr. and Theodore. He is also survived by his brothers Jake (Terry), Brian (Nancy), and sisters, Kathy, Susan (Angela) and Judith (Lou). The family will receive friends from 1pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, June 6th at SW Brown Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street Nutley NJ. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 7th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lodi Cemetery, 47 Terrace Ave, Lodi.
