Obituary for Wilma Gantner (Zimmerer)

Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother

Wilma Gantner, of Nutley, died peacefully in her home on Friday, Januray 4, 2019. Wilma, a lifelong resident of Nutley, was delivered by midwife, on Centre Street on March 8, 1926 and passed 92 years later less than a mile away. A graduate of Upsala College, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Elsa Zimmerer. She was active in St. Mary’s Church, most recently serving on the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters Court Gratia #751, and the church choir.
She was predeceased by her husband John Gantner Jr., in 1998 and worked side by side with John at Gantner’s Hardware Store for over four decades. She is survived by her two children, Joanne Sullivan & her husband John, and John Gantner & his wife Alison. Wilma’s legacy include 5 grandchildren, Kathleen, Colleen, Brian, Jenna and Johnny; and 6 great grandchildren, Juliet, Stella, Devin, Maeve, Morgan, and Ryan. She is predeceased by her brother Joseph Zimmerer.


The funeral will be 8:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral mass will be at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley at 9:30am.

The interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday 1-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Church Restoration Fund, 17 Monsignor Owens Pl, Nutley would be appreciated.
