Yolanda A. (Liloia) Perrotta, 102, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020, at the Job Haines Nursing Home in Bloomfield, NJ. A lifelong resident of Nutley, NJ, Yolanda is the last sibling of a family of nine children, all of whom were raised in Nutley. During the 1920s and 1930s, the Liloias were considered one of the pioneer families that helped Nutley grow to become one of the loveliest and most well-established towns in Essex County.
While a young woman, before and during World War II, Yolanda was an office manager and buyer for the F.W. Woolworth Company in Newark, NJ. She married First Lieutenant Lawrence J. Perrotta in 1945. With her husband, after the war, they owned and operated Perrotta Agency, an accounting business and insurance agency on Washington Avenue, Nutley, for over 40 years. Yolanda also was a commissioned notary public of the state of New Jersey for 25 years and a member of the American Society of Notaries.
Yolanda was affectionately called “Mimi” by her grandchildren and many other family members and friends who loved her. She was known for her quick smile and clever wit. Her generosity to her daughters, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews shall always be well-remembered. Mimi insisted on family gatherings around her table and nobody ever left there hungry! Upon graduating from Nutley High School in 1934, she received honors as a superior spelling champ, especially enjoyed her French and business classes, and had a certificate indicating four years of perfect attendance. She loved her late-night TV, especially Johnny Carson. She was remembered by her husband and brothers for her faithful, informative, and affectionate World War II letter correspondences. From childhood, a congregant at St. Mary’s Church, Nutley, Yolanda received all her sacraments there, including matrimony, and all three of her children were baptized there, as well.
Yolanda was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, her daughter, Yolanda Perrotta Evans, her son-in-law, John A. Ross, her sister and seven brothers. She is survived by a loving family that includes her daughter Laura Perrotta Ross, her daughter Mary Anne Perrotta, her former son-in-law Thomas J. Evans, a granddaughter, Jessica D’Amore and her husband John Thompson, granddaughter, Mary Evans Maples and her husband Jared Maples, grandson Thomas L.
