Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather and proud decorated Army National Guard Veteran

John William Weller, Jr. of Holmdel, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 peacefully at his home. Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late John William and Louise (Vogele) Weller. Growing up in Bloomfield, NJ, John Weller was a graduate of Upsala College. Early on, he pursued a military career in the southern states until the poor health of his father forced his return to the area.
As a resident of Llewellyn Park in West Orange he would spend the next 40 years raising his family with his wife Dorothy.
He ran a successful stock brokerage house, JW WELLER & CO, based in Bloomfield New Jersey with multiple offices along the east coast. A stockbroker listed in Who’s Who of the east he held a seat on the Pennsylvania stock exchange and was a past president of the Broker-Dealer Trade Association.
In the 1980’s he transitioned into the mortgage banking business where he held licenses to make first and secondary home mortgages.
Musically talented, he played the accordion in the Lawrence Welk orchestra as a child and continued to entertain friends and family with his accordion and piano playing throughout his life. Always ready for a “sing-along” he was a spark to many a party.
He retired as a Captain from the Army National Guard after 20 years of service. His military awards include his graduation of OCS Fort Benning, Georgia, recipient of the Draper award, recipient of the Fleming award and recipient of the St. George Medal of Honor
His Former and current organizations include FIA Insurance Company board member, Trustee emeritus with Glendale Cemetery Board member since 1970, Former trustee of the Essex Troop, and Former member of the Kiwanis club.
John also previously owned race horses and was especially fond of his winners; Admiral Byrd N and Brad Capers.
The beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Meissner) Weller, he is survived by his devoted and loving children, Liesel Agatha Weller, who he spent his last few years residing in Holmdel with and Jon W. Weller and his wife, Suzanne and his cherished grandson, John Wesley Weller.

The funeral services and cremation were private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
