Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather

Angelo L. Tibaldo passed into eternal life on September 28, 2019, after a brief but difficult illness, which he fought to the end.

Born in Montecchio, Italy, on November 16, 1929, he emigrated to America at the age of 6, with his mother Maria, and siblings Mary and John. The family reunited with their father Domenico who, like many in his hometown, secured work in the United States as a miner, and earned citizenship after serving in the U.S. Army in World War I.

After starring as a football player at Belleville High School, Angelo enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving in Libya, England, and Germany, and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

He married Paolina Peloso in 1954, in her and his family’s hometown of Montorso, Italy. They moved to Newark, where he designed their home, and raised two children Domenick and Marylou. He worked at Seton Leather Company in Newark until his retirement.

Angelo’s passions were numerous:

First, he was a talented and artful still photographer, who developed, printed, and hand colored his photos.

Second, every year he cultivated very productive, efficient, and sustainable vegetable and flower gardens, which earned him multiple First Place Awards from the Greater Newark Conservancy.

And, finally, Angelo was an avid game bird hunter who trained his own hunting dogs, including Max, a German Wirehaired Pointer who was a prize-winner for his hunting skills.

Angelo was devoted to Paolina, his wife of 65 years; his children Domenick (Joanne) and Marylou (Jerome) Bongiorno; and his grandchildren Stephanie (Patrick) McAloon and Michael; his parents; in-laws; siblings and their families (Osetto and Tibaldo); his wife’s Peloso family; and extended family and friends, particularly his nieces and nephews, whose concern throughout his life endured to his last day.

His intimate friends, Anthony Iannarone, Jim “Red” Marinaro, and John Notte, remained strong in his thoughts and memories.

Angelo and his family are grateful to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for their long-standing compassionate support.

The funeral will be Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley at 9 a.m.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark at 10 a.m.

The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in No. Arlington.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Angelo L. Tibaldo may be made to St. John's Church "Feed the Hungry" 22 Mulberry St. Newark, NJ 07100.
