Obituary for Carmen "Mike" Vitillo

Lifelong Nutley Resident, WWII Veteran, and Owner of L. Vitillo, Inc.
Carmen “Mike” Vitillo, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Born in Nutley, the son of the late Liberato & Josephine (Jannarone) Vitillo, he has lived in Nutley all of his life. Mike was a man who loved life, his friends, his country and most importantly his family. His kind and quiet demeanor was an outstanding trait that endeared him to many people.
Mike served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. His love for his country was emulated by him every day, as he donned his famous Navy cap which he wore proudly. Mike was honored by the Township of Nutley, Department of Public Affairs, Military Affairs Bureau in November of 2014.
An Owner of L. Vitillo, Inc., he was an active member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 825.
Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife, Philomena (Buglione) Vitillo, nine sisters and four brothers. He is survived by many nieces & nephews.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to all of those caregivers who were with Mike over the past several years.
The funeral will be on Saturday, February 25th, at 8:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Nutley at 9:30 a.m. by his nephew, Monsignor Robert Vitillo, Secretary General of the International Catholic Migration Commission in Geneva, Switzerland.
The entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
