Obituary for Edward A. Eltzholtz

An Outstanding Athlete & Family Man
Edward A. Eltzholtz, of Nutley, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Born in Montclair, the son of the late Rita (Fikslin) & Alfred Eltzholtz, he lived there prior to moving to Nutley over 50 years ago. He attended Immaculate Conception High School and graduated from Montclair High School where he was drafted to play minor league baseball in the A’s organization. He later attended William Paterson where he played basketball. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 in Germany. A great athlete, he was outstanding player for the Army baseball team and traveled extensively with the team. He played fast pitch softball with the Montclair Carmels for many years playing alongside his brother and many of his cousins. He will always be remembered by them as “Cuz”. He coached his three sons in Little League and basketball for years but loved teaching fundamentals to all the players. He proudly watched his daughter excel in high school sports.
Ed worked for Diamond Shamrock for 25 years, and several other companies before finally retiring from Sun Chemical. He spent his “retirement” working as a Crossing Guard for the town of Nutley for many years and his post was referred to as “Ed’s Corner”. He loved his Mets, Rangers and Giants.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years in April, Margaret (Reilly) Eltzholtz, and his four children, Edward & his wife Maureen, Michael & his wife Becky, Christopher & his wife Felicia, and, Janine King & her husband Michael. Pop Pop loved telling jokes to his 10 grandchildren, Julia, Justin, Kayleen, Nicole, Mia, Ryan, Ava, Erin, Riley and Connor, who he loved dearly. Also surviving are his brothers Alfred and John & his wife Carolyn and several loving nieces and nephews. Ed loved the family home in Belmar where he could always be found rocking on the front porch and reading the latest novel. He leaves behind many good friends and he will surely be missed.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield at 10 a.m.
