Obituary for Emma M. Bocchini

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother
Emma M. Bocchini, of South Orange, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Born in Raritan, NJ, the daughter of the late Luigi & Anna (Perantoni) Vicenzi, she grew up in Raritan. Emma graduated nursing school at St. Michael’s Hospital and lived in Newark prior to moving to South Orange over 50 years ago. She worked in the office of her late husband, Joseph A. Bocchini, M.D. in South Orange. Afterwards, she worked for many years in the Guidance Department at Essex Catholic High School in East Orange, where she counselled students in their college choices and future endeavors.
Emma’s family and friends will always remember her amazing culinary skills and the wonderful dinners they shared together. Emma also loved Italy and accompanied many of her children and grandchildren on visits there.
Emma is survived by her children, Joseph A. Bocchini, Jr., M.D., Michael J. Bocchini & his wife, Suzanne, Carol A Bocchini, Michele A. Sweetman & her husband, Donald, Thomas P. Bocchini, M.D. & his wife, Kebra; her grandchildren, Katherine, Michael, Claire, Anna, Mary, Jane, Anne, Nicholas, Nina, Gregory and Michael and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, James, Henry, Eleanor and Dorothy. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bocchini; a sister, Victoria Rossi and a brother, Angelo Vicenzi.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield at 10 a.m.
The interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Easter Seals would be preferred.
