Obituary for Irene Theresa Bednash (Wasielewski)
Irene Theresa Bednash (Wasielewski), age 84, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2018, surrounded by her loving family members. She was born on November 4, 1933, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Wladyslaw (Walter) and Mary (Markoska) Wasilewski.
She was a graduate of Ferris High School. On April 30, 1955, she married Walter Bednash. Together, they raised their four children in Jersey City before moving to Nutley, NJ. Irene and Walter enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Irene spent her professional career as a secretary. She last worked for Roadway Express, Inc. in South Kearny, NJ, for 25 years before retiring in 1988.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Adele (Bednash) Macula and her husband, Joseph; Leonard Bednash and his wife, Tracey; Richard Bednash and his wife, Jo Anne; and David Bednash and his wife, Ashley.
Irene was grandmother "babci" to Trevor and Olivia Bednash, Brad Bishop and his wife, Wendy and Justin Bishop and his wife Andrea, and Matthew and Margaret Paige Bednash. She was great-grandmother to Madeleine, Penelope, Anthony, Joseph and Jordana Bishop.
She is also survived by her twin sister, Mary Piotrowski, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be remembered lovingly by her many lifelong friends.
The family extends deep gratitude to Irene’s dedicated caregivers, Maria Chlivnaja and Maria Malolepszy for their loving care and support.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brothers Henry, Charles, Teofil, and George.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Irene touched are invited to the S. W. Brown and Son Funeral Home 267 Centre Street, Nutley, NJ, from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, to reminisce, grieve, support each other, and celebrate Irene’s memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 10:30am at Holy Family RC Church, 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley, New Jersey.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9:30am.
The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.
