Obituary for James G. Scandiffio

James G. Scandiffio
James G. Scandiffio entered the eternal peace of God’s healing and loving arms on May 29, 2018 surrounded by his devoted family. He fought his illness bravely with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. He never gave up and the inspiration of strength, hope and love he provided to his family and friends is one of his greatest legacies.
Jim was the loving husband of Maureen (nee McNeill) for 26 years and the dedicated dad to his daughters, Theresa, Elizabeth and Eileen. He was predeceased by his parents Gabriel and Vincenza (Mary)(nee Fountanarosa). Also surviving are his brother and sister and his father-in-law, Joe McNeill along with other family members including beloved sisters/brothers in law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jim touched the hearts of everyone he met with his smile and welcoming attitude. He was a light in the life of all who knew him.
Jim was born on November 12, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York, where he lived for 42 years until he moved to Verona, NJ in 1992. He attended Our Lady Help of Christians in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Technical High School and received his college degree from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now known as Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute of New York).
Jim began his career in electrical engineering as an electrical estimator. He then worked for NBC Studios in the electrical maintenance field. Subsequently, he worked for Johnson Controls in the field of HVAC and fire alarms for Rockefeller Center. He also worked for American Electric Power Service Corporation in NYC and Burns & Rowe where he entered the field of nuclear controls. Jim worked for Con Edison – Indian Point (Entergy Nuclear Northeast) from 1983 through 2007. He ended his career employed by the County of Essex.
He was a parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove, NJ, a member of the Verona Choir, and Cedar Grove UNICO. He also attended Men’s Cornerstone at St. Catherine of Siena.
Jim loved music and had a great voice. In addition, he was a “smooth” dancer. He prided himself on his music selections and loved to serenade any guests who visited. Jim is surely now singing with the angels. He was an avid and talented woodworker and created many unique projects. His other favorite past times were reading and he enjoyed reflective down time. Jim was a meticulous organizer and loved spending time making sure everything was in perfect order.
Jim’s greatest accomplishment in life is “my family”. He would like to be best remembered for being a devoted husband to Maureen, the love of his life, and for the family he created and the fact that his daughters are strong and successful, and he hopes that the tools he provided to his family will get them through life knowing how proud of them he is.
In his words, “It is okay to cry” and the tears we shed for him are a testament to his love, devotion, intelligence, compassion and the wonderful person he was.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 339 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove, NJ on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley on Friday from 4:30-7:30 pm.
