Obituary for John C. Betts

John C. Betts of Nutley, passed away on Friday September 8, 2017 at his home. Born in Paterson, he was the son of the late Christ and Sylvia (Athans) Betts. Mr. Betts lived in Paterson before moving to Nutley in 1969. John was an accounting manager at William Paterson University before retiring. He was a graduate of Rutgers University in Newark and was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. John was an active member of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus. He was past president of the church community and a former church board member. He was also former president of the Order of AHEPA and advisor to the Sons of Pericles.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey (Scoskie) Betts and his sons, Stephen C. Betts and wife, Terry and Thomas G. Betts and wife, Dona Grace. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, James Leiman and wife, Alison and their children, Miles and Siena and Jared Leiman and wife, Jennifer and their children, Madelyn and Joshua. He was the dear brother of James Betts and the late Katherine Sarris.
A viewing will be held at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road in Paramus on Monday September 11 from 9 am to 10:30 am at which time the funeral service will begin.
The interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
