Obituary for John E. Gibbons

Retired Nutley Police Officer
John E. Gibbons, Jr. of Bayville, passed away, on Monday, January 29, 2018. Born in Newark, the son of the late Helen (Sheedy) & John E. Gibbons, he grew up in Orange and lived in Nutley for over 30 years prior to moving to Bayville 7 years ago.
He retired in 2011 from the Nutley Police Department after working for 25 years. He also served as the Community Affairs Officer. John was the former state representative and a member of the PBA Local #33 in Nutley and a representative of the Essex County Democratic Committee.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Vecoli) Gibbons; two daughters, Erin Gibbons and Cara McCloud & her husband Edward; his grandchildren, Alyssa & Alec and Jake & Aubrey; and his sister, Joyce Mazur.
The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley at 9:30 a.m.
The entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
