Obituary for John W. Hertling

Elevator starter at Rockefeller Center for 43 years, Merchant Marine Veteran
John W. Hertling of Belleville, passed away on Friday August 25, 2017 at his home. Born in Jersey City, he was the son of the late John W. and Gertrude Hertling. Mr. Hertling lived in North Arlington before coming to Belleville in 1973 and was an elevator starter at Rockefeller Center in New York City for 43 years before retiring. John was a U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran of World War II and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also past president of the Old Guard of Belleville and was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in North Arlington.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Hannah (Davidson) Hertling, his daughter, Pamela Galuskin, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Jay Karder Hertling and his sister, Gertrude Eskerazi.
A Funeral Service will be offered at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Monday August 28 at 12 noon
The interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 pm.
