Obituary for Mary A. Gabriele
Active in Church and Community
Mary A. Gabriele (Mastriani), predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Angelo J. Gabriele, lived in Nutley most of her life. Mother of Rose, Maryann, Thomas, Joseph Gabriele, the late Genevieve Gabriele and was Grandmother to Alexis Mary, Allison, Angelo, Thomas Anthony Jr. Sister of predeceased, Michael and Joseph Mastriani.
Mary was an active parishioner of Holy Family Church, Nutley, N.J. where she was a long time member of the Rosary Altar Sodality. She was, also, a member of the St. Lucy Sodality for 40 years and served as its past president for 2 years. Mary organized a successful retreat for both sodalities under the leadership of Bishop Saltarelli. She loved contributing to her church community as a volunteer who made baptismal robes for 40 years.
She was, also, active with the civic groups of Nutley and Essex County. Mary was Director and Founder of the Nutley Senior Service Club for 32 years, long time member of the Republican Club, Vice President of the Senior Citizen Council for 10 years, worked on election polls for 23 years and worked on visiting homebound Seniors for Essex County. The many members of Nutley Parks and Recreation enjoyed her organizing trips to Italy, Hawaii, Cruises and many other states for 25 years.
The funeral will be Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Nutley at 9:30 a.m.
The interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
