Obituary for Michael A. De Matteo

Proud Korean War Veteran
Michael A. De Matteo, of Toms River, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home. Born in Newark, the son of the late Mary (Biancardi) & Pasqual De Matteo, he was raised in Bloomfield and lived in Nutley prior to moving to Toms River 17 years ago. Before his retirement, Michael was a vending machine mechanic with M&M Vending Machine Co. in Elizabeth. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and a former member of the Nutley Amvets.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Antoinette (D’Andrea) De Matteo; 4 children, Denise Panicci, Adrienne De Matteo, Patti Cainzos & her husband, John and Anthony De Matteo; 7 grandchildren, Michael & Joseph Panicci, Joseph & Paul Giglio, Gianna Cainzos and Joseph & Sarea De Matteo; 4 great-grandchildren, Francesca, Michael Albert, Paul & Vincent and his sister, Florence Gilgar & her husband, Arthur. Michael was predeceased by his son, Joseph & his granddaughter, Christin Giglio.
The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Nutley at 9:30 a.m.
The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in No. Arlington.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be preferred.
