Obituary for Nicholas A. Fagioli

Criminal Justice Professor, Marine Corps Veteran
Nicholas A. Fagioli, 68, of Nutley, NJ passed away at his home on January 4, 2018.
Nick was born in Newark, NJ and was raised in Belleville. He was a 1967 graduate of Essex Catholic High School in Newark. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Western New England College (proud brother of Tau Kappa Epsilon) and a Master’s Degree from Montclair State. He was also a proud Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam era.
Nick began his career in 1971 as a Corrections Officer at the Essex County Jail. He began as a Probation Officer for Essex County a few years later. He was then accepted into the newly formed Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) where he worked for many years in Bergen County. Nick also served as the Acting Regional Supervisor for the Juvenile ISP and as Acting Regional Supervisor of the Crossroads and Northern Regions.
Through his work with ISP, he spent many years helping others through fundraising with the March of Dimes, the Arthritis Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Association and Lupus Foundation.
Nick spent countless hours representing his alma mater, Western New England College, at many high school college fairs. While working full-time and later in retirement, Nick was an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Kean University.
“Big Nick” enjoyed spending time with his friends and family both in person and over the Internet. He also loved watching and recommending all of the films and series he would binge watch on Netflix. He was a proud grandfather who loved playing cards, telling jokes and playing board games with his grandsons.
Nick leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda J. (Taft) Fagioli; his sons, Jonathan & wife, Jacqueline, Nicholas & his girlfriend Monika, Jeffrey & his wife, Victoria, Andrew & his girlfriend, Stacy, and Alexander Fagioli. He also leaves his grandsons, Nicholas, Vincent and Louis; his brother, John & his wife, Susan; his sister, Joanna Henkel; a sister-in-law, Shirley & her husband, Stephen Omicioli and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Monday January 8 8:30 am.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley at 9:30 am. Cremation will be private.
Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday January 7 from 2-6 pm.
The Fagioli family wishes to express their appreciation to the Nutley Emergency & Rescue Squad, Police Department, Fire Department and Road Department for their assistance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the U.S.O. or the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
