Obituary for Nick Casale 92

“Our father was well loved by many and he will be sorely missed by all”
Nicola, “Nick” Casale, of Nutley, NJ, entered into eternal life on October 18, 2017. Born in Newark, NJ, on April 16, 1925, the son of the late Carmine & Giovannina Casale, he lived in Newark prior to moving to Nutley 54 years ago. Before his retirement in 1992, he worked for the County of Essex in as an Inventory Supervisor.
Nick was a classic: intelligent, handsome, humorous, and kind. In his company, you were sure to hear a funny story, almost always lose a card game to him, or just feel special in his presence. His legacy will carry on in the lives of his five children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Nick met his wife, Rae Salerno, while at a high school dance and they married on September 28, 1947. They were married for 66 years before her passing on January 29, 2014.
He is survived by his children, Carmen Casale & his partner Arlene Kaplan, Linda Catapano & her husband Michael, Nicholas Casale & his wife Carole, Gina Casale & her partner Bill Paro, and Richard Casale; his grandchildren Michael Casale & his partner Jody Johnson ,Kimberly Des Champs & her husband Doug, Michael Catapano & his wife Amy, Nicola Bertucci & her husband Joe, Meaghan Vernazza & her husband Mark, Kenny, Shane & Kiera Byrnes, and Marina, Laura, and Melissa Casale; his great-grandchildren, Jada & Nicholas Casale,and Arianna Pollara. He was predeceased by his siblings: Rose DeMaio, Mary Mancuso, Angie D’Allesio,and Jerry Casale.
Nick enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, Monday night card games, spending winters in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and summers in Seaside Park, NJ, was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark at 10:30 a.m.
The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
