Obituary for Phyllis Favata

Devoted and cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
Phyllis Favata of Nutley, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Born in Newark, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Angelina (Ponzio) & John Bongiovanni. She was a longtime resident of Bloomfield prior to moving to Nutley four years ago. Phyllis was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.
However, her greatest passion was her family as she was a devoted and cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Andrew. Her five children, Louise Ruffo and her husband Peter, Andrea Malone and her husband Robert, Leonard Favata and his wife Michele, Andrew Favata and his wife Maria, and Victoria Moran and her husband Chris; her grandchildren, Christina Yurkosky and her husband Steven, Stephanie Ruffo, Deanna Favata, Nicholas Favata, Alexa Malone, Alyssa Favata and Andrew Favata; and great-grandchildren Angelina Yurkosky and Luke Yurkosky. She was predeceased by her grandson Leonard Favata, Jr.
Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Thursday May 17 at 9:15 am.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy’s Church, Newark at 10:30 am followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum in East Hanover.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the National Shrine of St. Gerard, St. Lucy’s Church 118 7th Ave. Newark, NJ 07104
