Obituary for Rose Verga
Rose Verga (née Mongelli), 87, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Alaris Health at The Atrium in Jersey City, NJ. Rose was born in Hoboken, NJ. She had lived in Jersey City, Marion Section since 1953 when she was married to her beloved husband Salvatore “Cakey” Verga, who died in 1994.
She is survived by her daughter Dolores Mannino and son-in-law Ross, her cherished granddaughter Danielle Mannino, her son Vince Verga and daughter-in-law Bonnie. Loving sister to Josephine Mongelli and Mary Capurso and her late siblings, Anna Lyons, Victoria Fucilli and Ignazio Mongelli.
Rose was a long time member of the 50+ Club at our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Jersey City and enjoyed working the feast there selling 50/50 tickets until her health made it too difficult to continue. She loved to travel to Atlantic City and try her luck at the slot machines with the late Mary Marino her sister-in-law and her friend the late Jerry Faugno. She loved to cook and was known for the best Eggplant Parmigiana. She was the manager of The Wonder Store on Central Ave in Jersey City till their closing when she moved into sales in JC Penney and remained there until her retirement in 1995.
Visitation is on Monday, March 26, 2018, 5:00pm to 9:00pm at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street Nutley, NJ 07110.
Everyone will meet for a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, 10:30am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 99 Broadway, Jersey City.
Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
Rose was a dialysis recipient for the last 12 years and that treatment added years to her life. In lieu of flowers friends and family are invited to consider a donation in her memory to: American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852
