Obituary for Vincent R. Fugarazzo

Proudly Served in the Air Force from 1942-1982
Vincent R. Fugarazzo, of Nutley, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his home. Born in Long Island City, New York, the son of the late Jennie (Turco) & Carmine Fugarazzo, he lived in Newark prior to moving to Nutley 65 years ago.
Vincent retired as a technical engineer from the U.S. Department of Defense at McGuire Air Force Base. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps. during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War prior to his retirement from the Air National Guard in 1982.
While serving in World War II, he was shot down on his second to last mission and was held as a P.O.W. for 10 months.
In 1952 he served in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada with the U.S. Department of Defense and NATO to establish International Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line.
In 2009, he revieved the French Legion Medal of Honor for assisting the Maquis during the invasion of Normandy.
Vincent was the past commanders of the American Ex-Prisoners of War Garden State Chapter 3 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #366.
Vincent is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie (Lombardi) Fugarazzo; his loving daughters, Joanne & JudyAnne and his faithful canine companions, Daisy & Vivie.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12 Noon at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The entombment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
